A Memorable Annual Trip to Sugar Mountain North Carolina

As a lifelong skier in the east and a PSIA level 2 ski instructor, I grew up on skis and am so proud to be able to teach my children and now grandchildren to share in our family tradition. Sugar Mountain is about a 3.5 hour drive from the Raleigh, NC area.

My three-year-old and five-year-old grandsons were eager to explore and learn on the gentle slopes. The ease and terrain of the learning areas made it a joy to introduce them to skiing.

We stayed at a reasonably priced Airbnb which was just a pleasant stroll away from the ski lifts. It made our mornings effortless; we could see the snow guns going on our way to the slopes. Plus, being so close meant we could easily take breaks when the kids needed them.
One of the best surprises was finding out that children aged four and younger ski for just $3 when accompanied by an adult with a lift ticket. It felt wonderful to be part of such an inclusive environment where the focus was truly on family fun. And as an added bonus, the resort offers discounts for seniors over 70, which is perfect for grandparents looking to enjoy their time with grandkids.

Watching my grandsons learn was a joy all on its own. Each smile on their faces made every moment worth it and they gained confidence with every silly game Grandma could imagine. This is exactly what The Wander Gene is all about - creating memories across generations and embracing the wanderlust that connects us all. Sugar Mountain was not just a destination; it became a cherished memory we will all look back on with warmth.
